Chad Hurley (born 24 January 1977) is an American internet entrepreneur and investor best known as one of the co-founders of YouTube. He co-founded the video-sharing platform with Steve Chen and Jawed Karim in 2005 and served as its first chief executive officer.

Early life and education
Hurley was born on 24 January 1977 in Reading, Pennsylvania, United States. He attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he studied graphic design.

His background in design became relevant to his later work in internet technology. Before co-founding YouTube, Hurley worked in the technology industry and developed experience in user-interface and web design.

Early career
Before YouTube, Hurley worked at PayPal, where he was involved in the design of the company's user interface. He was part of the team responsible for the original PayPal logo.

While working at PayPal, Hurley met Steve Chen and Jawed Karim. The three later collaborated on the creation of YouTube.

YouTube
In 2005, Hurley co-founded YouTube with Steve Chen and Jawed Karim. The service was created as an online platform for uploading, sharing, and viewing video content.

Hurley served as YouTube's chief executive officer during the company's early development. His design background contributed to the development of YouTube's user interface and visual identity, while Chen and Karim worked primarily on the technical aspects of the service.

YouTube quickly attracted users and became one of the most prominent video-sharing websites on the internet. The platform's growth led to its acquisition by Google in 2006.

Sale of YouTube
In October 2006, Google announced an agreement to acquire YouTube for approximately US$1.65 billion in Google stock. The acquisition was completed in November 2006.

Following the acquisition, Hurley continued to work with YouTube for several years. He stepped down as chief executive officer in 2010 and subsequently remained involved with the company in an advisory capacity.

Later ventures
After leaving his executive role at YouTube, Hurley became involved in other technology and entrepreneurial ventures.

In 2013, Hurley co-founded MixBit, a video-sharing and editing service, with Steve Chen. MixBit was designed to allow users to record, edit, combine, and share video clips.

Hurley has also participated in technology investments and entrepreneurial projects. His activities after YouTube have included working with startups and technology companies.

Entrepreneurial work
Hurley's career has focused on internet products, digital media, video technology, and online platforms. His experience spans product design, technology entrepreneurship, executive leadership, and investment.

His role in the creation of YouTube is particularly associated with the platform's early product design and user experience. The service became an important part of the development of online video distribution and user-generated media.
